Ok here is my setup.
j&e 12:1 piston, ported and polished head, white bros valve springs,xr 400cam,the head and cylinder have been decked .025,the head studs are9/16 in diameter instead of 10mm and they are 1in. longer than stock.Carb has the choke removed and is jetted to this motor.
Now heres where my problem is...I have a noise right when I let off the throttle. I have adjusted the valves and its not that plus its way to load to be valve train noise. So Ive decided that its the timing chain that is making the noise...Now what I assume is happening is since my motor has been decked .050 total the cam is that much closer to the crank causing slop in the chain when its not under power. Now when I try to set the timing it will never be right on its like in between a tooth.
is there anything that I can do besides making my self a .050 metal gasket to take up that extra space to make the cam chain tight agian...Has anyone had this problem? I bought this motor the way it sits it ran fine when i got it. It had a XR400 cam in it and didnt make any noises. I changed the cam to a hotcam stage 2 and didnt think about how it has been decked and how the TDC will not line up agian. So I dont know how it was set before I changed the cam but it did run ok.
Any help is much needed...Thanks guys
