I just got a 2005 400ex and I really really want it to go faster. I dont know a whole bunch about it yet, but I need some help in some ways that I can get to haul ***. If anyone could help me with some ideas that would be great.

Get some tires to help hook up.... Get a sprocket, one less and you will get major torque, and one more and you will get more top speed......

I'd start by getting a complete exhaust system...White Bros, or Pro Circuit, then get air fliter, air scoops, and then go with a 11:1 piston.

dude, ignore the tire suggestion. Your radials will hookup better than most aftermarket bias tires. Go exhaust/jet/filter.

Help me understand how airscoops will make him go faster.

Ok, you can ignore indyZriders post I have a 400EX and about 11,000 in aftermarket accesories and I have never lost to any Suzuki I have beat the new LT-R450's by 18-20 bike lenghts in about 350 bike length races and trust me once you put five or six things on your atv you will look at it again in about 6 months and you will have about 20 or 25 things...atleast for me thats how it was... I ordered a pipe, air filter, header, jet kit, and air scoops within the first week and then it almost came an addiction to make my 440 the baddest 440 ever... I am starting to almost run out of accesories to buy for it I have about everything made that will speed up a 400..

Wells thanks for the input so far. I'm really excited to get this thing going. I have riden it before and it just didn't have enough balls for me. I really wanted a 450r but I couldn't afford that right now, so I will take what I can get I guess.

Air scoops wont make your atv faster but it increases your airflow tremendously and makes your quad stand out.... if you think about it air...increases air inflow.. it goes together, and as we all know air inflow does what? makes your atv go faster and run cleaner.... any more questions??

HMMMMM- I thought the primary reason for the air scoops was to funnel the air to keep your motor cooler- which then it'll make more power

Read my mods in my signature. The 11:1 piston and other motor work is great & all, but I'm going to wait until mine starts to smoke before I break into my motor and void my warranty.;)

I'd suggest a proven exhaust like curtis sparks or hmf, buy a full system- your wasteing your money with just a muffler only, k$n filter or uni-filter, simple mod to your carb by removing the choke, I wouldnt advise going over 11:1 compression piston unless you like replacing the rod more frequently- I'd run 93 octane gas- helps keep your engine cooler, maybe a larger oil tank. If you wanna get real drastic- port and polish the head, larger valves, 39mm carb, maybe a 416 piston and 4mm stroker rod.

The airscoops are directed towards the engine, unless you are getting your air from somewhere behind the engine, how are airscoops helping.

I understand they are supposed to help cool the engine, but I personally think they are ugly and out of place on a bike with no radiator.
