I want to know what the letter designations for oil classification mean.? I have a 400ex and the manufacturer say's SF/SG. Is there a different stress level for the oil has to acheive to reciec a differnt classification. SM,SF,SG,SJ and so on. Thanks you, This forum rocks.

you should run anything besides the manufacturers specs, because the other oils have 'anti-wear' additives in them, and they WILL eventually cause your clutch to slip.
as long as there are no friction modifiers you'll be fine.
Put heavy duty clutch springs in and you can run oil with the friction modifiers. I did it for 2 years and no problems. Also the clutch slipping theory only happens with 400ex's and stock clutches.
friction modifiers are a good thing to be honest.
