how the crap do i get the sprocket hub off of a stock 87 r axle

if its the same way as a 300ex, 400ex and 250x, then you dont, its pressed on

I think your wrong about that, if its like the above quads
you have to press the hub towards the center of the axle about a quarter inch and you will see a c-clip or snap ring type deal that you must remove. Then you can press it back the other direction ( towards outside of axle ) and it will press off the splines. This being a 19 year old axle its probably gonna take some heat and a large press to get it to budge. Good luck :macho

Never use heat on the axle- it ruins the factory hardening. Just try and make do with some WD40.

that would only be if you got it cherry red would it take the temper out of it. But like I said before one that old is gonna be tough to get off. If the sprocket hub is no good and your going to replace it you could just cut it off with a grinder and cutting wheel. But to press it off your gonna have to have like a 2 or 3 ton press stand like used to press axle bearings on/off. And even that might not do it

it wont come off it is pressed on you can take the outer ring off but thecenter is pressed on
