I have a like new, one ride, Diamond J Customs multi piece shock relocator bracket for sale if someone needs one. Its for putting 400ex shocks on a 300ex. Puff_Pryor has first dibs if he wants it.

Make me an offer.

Now am I right in assuming that with one of these relocators I would be able to run 400ex shocks with an otherwise stock 250x front suspension (stock a arms etc..)? I just want to make sure that this would not negatively change the geometry or handling characteristics. Any advice you have would really be appreciated

There are hundreds of people running these on the 300ex with 400ex or 250R shocks.

So what this locator does is allow you to run better shocks/springs while keeping the same travel? I just wanted something better than my stock 1987 250x shocks and was thinking that the 400ex ones would be an inexpensive upgrade.

Theyre a great upgrade with the right bracket. 400 shocks are 3" longer than 300 shocks.

Sorry about all the simple questions, but are most (including your) shock relocators 3"? With this bracket and a set of 400ex shocks I would be all set on a budget?

..You also need 400's Arms.

Well, I also happen to have a set of top and bottom 05 400ex a arms and tie rods for sale if someone needs them.

I see, I thought I may be able to just use the shocks, my mistake. I may just wait and get a set of used extended 300ex arms when I have the cash. Thanks for all the info though.

No he doesn't need the 400ex a arms. You can run the shockmount bracket with 400ex length shocks and either stock or aftermarket 300ex a arms.

That is correct. It helps to have 400ex a arms, but it is not neccessary.

You can run just the shocks and the bracket with the stock 300 a arms. If you upgrade to extended 300ex a arms then you will have to have the shocks set up for them or they will be very soft.

I thought so too, but didnt feel like arguing with anyone.

You ONLY need the brackets to run 400ex shocks.

Yeah this subject tends to bring up a few arguments here and there. lol

So with a 3" relocation bracket I will maintain all the right geometry, travel, and handling characteristics of the stock suspension? The advantage of this setup with the 400ex shocks over the worn 250x shocks would then be just a better suspension feel?

and considerably more travel.

If you use the relocator and the 400ex shocks with stock a-arms, {correct if I'm wrong} your frame will hit the ground before those 400ex shocks bottom out. Doesn't seem to good of a idea!

Actually I thought I read something about that too. I believe that is only with stock 400ex shocks. If you use aftermarket 400ex shocks they can be set up properly though.

chapmanmd- Sorry about clogging up your thread:o
