I have never heard of that. Did he get caught riding on the road because that's different. My friend got caught riding on the road when he was younger and they held him from getting his license an extra six months.

I dont know what the laws are in NJ but here in PA if you take an ATV on the roadway you are subject to the same laws as a car...Which means if you get caught on the road and the Police Officer wanted to he could give you a citation for Drivng without a license (if you didnt have one), No insurance, no inspection, no registration. BUT it would have to be on a roadway, NOT woods...Did he take it on the road???

The story sounds a little fishy to me:huh
He had to have been riding on the road!

I know all about atv tickets and there is nothing that says anyone under any age cannot ride one. on the road or public property there is a different story

NJ ATV laws:

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/cit_permits/d_pat_atv.html

Under 18 must have approved safety cert. I don't think it pertains to private property though.

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/cit_registration/v_reg_snowmobile.html

relates to registering an atv. But doesn't matter they are not allowed in state parks or forests.

NJ really sucks for ATVs.

Did you have to ride on any roads or cross any to get to the county property?

The cop caught you in the middle of the woods? How did you get from your house to the middle of the woods?

If you were on actual "County Property", then I would assume that the same laws would apply there as they would on a county road or highway since they are both owned and/or regulated by the county government. If it was private property, then you probably wouldn't have gotten the ticket.
