i know that with a bracket you can bolt up the 400ex shocks to a 300, but i saw somewhere that guys were putting yfz450 shocks onto their 400's so i was thinkin...with the same bracket and +2 a-arms would i be able to bolt up yfz shocks on the 300ex?

It would sit pretty low. A member by the name of Cody_300ex or something like that has Yfz shocks with LT a arms on his 300ex and he loves them.

Yes, VERY good shocks! I Have them on my GDH Racing Lt a-arms it RAILS corners. One thing tho be prepared to grind the piss out of the top shock mount. It's about a half inch to wide front and back. Very adjustable.

so with +2 a-arms all that is required is a relocation mount and grinding the mounts of the yfz shocks...and you get great handling and a few extra inches of travel with no real disadvantages?

would this set up be a good idea for gncc style riding?

yes they will fit. the top eye may need to be grinded slightly skinnier thats all. they do not lower your quad much. if you set the pre load rings all the way to the bottom you sit right at stock hight. if you bring the rings all the way to the top you quad sits at mx/tt hight.
yfz shocks eye to eye are less than a inch shorter so no they do not lower you much at less you mess with the preload rings.

if you need more info then you can e-mail me. kjh6598@centurytel.net

With a diamond J customs shock relocater for the 300ex allows you to bolt yfz shocks right up.

if you can fit 400ex shocks then you can fit rapters/yfz450s/banshees/450r's/z400's/ but i would go with yfz shocks

I've tried 400ex and 450r so far. the 450r shocks work awesome. i can just pull back on my quad in the whoops and nail it and glide the front end over the top of the whoops.

so for gncc style riding and fast technical trails would i be better suited with the 450r shocks?

Dirtwheels said the yfz's shocks were better on the racetrack and the 450R's are more like recreation shocks, kinda like the 400ex. Just what I heard.

psshhtt...dirtwheels  haha but yea i was kinda thinkin the same thing. would rather go with yfz shocks though if they would get the job done.

its a fact that yfz450 shocks are better shocks for mx racing. they handle jumps alot better. 450r shocks are pritty much 400ex shocks with compression and rebound ajustments.

go to a shop and push on the front of a 450r. it feels kinda soft. then push on the yfz450 front it will feel stiff.
but the 06 yfz450 shocks are now softer.

dirt wheels claimes they can not bottom out the yfz shocks no matter how hard they try. (except the 06)

well i jump and i can not bottom out the shocks. only way i can is if i set the pre load rings all the way to the top. then i can some times bottom out.
i have the older 04 shocks though

I'm sure they improved the 400ex shocks over the years. I had 2000 model shocks, but the 400ex shocks i had on my 300ex were nothing like 450r shocks, probably because of the adjustments.

Do you have any clue what your talking about? It almost sounds like you believe the crap your saying.

First off the 450R shocks are NO WHERE near the 400ex shocks, in any way shape or form, other than both have red springs.

Secondly if you cant get your shocks to bottom out then they are set up too stiff for whatever it is your doing. Its not a good sign when they dont bottom, because it means your not using your shock to its fullest potential. You should bottom out once in a while, it just means its properly set up.

take the ajustibility off the 450r shocks and you have 400ex shock performance.
and with the stiffer yfz shocks you can set your ride hight lower then and not bottom constintly

Internally the 400EX and 450R shocks are NOT valved the same. From where you are getting your bogus info? Even if they were valved the same the additions of compression/rebound adjustment plus the extra oil capacity from the reservoir make the 450R shocks peform much better.

For many 450R shock users a simple revalving/re-springing to match the rider's "riding" weight and riding style will make the 450R shocks perform much better.

Have I used 450R and YFZ shocks? Yes!
Do I consider myself an expert on shocks? ummmmm... hell, no but I do know that an improperly setup shock combo will ride like total turds!!

One more thing: The spring itself is what will make a shock stiffer or softer.
