I recently bought two new 86 cases and what if anything do i need to look for to make sure they are matching? Going to start assembly this weekend

I did a search and nothing came up with what i want an answer to. I'am sure that there are other people that are curious too. I can understand alignment of tranny shafts and crank, etc. but if both pieces are for the same year, there should be that much difference? I know that they only had so many casting that they used, so i would think that they would be all interchangeable? hello is thing on?

If you have brand new Honda cases that is as matched as you need to be.

you might want to order the 89 main bearings so you have one more ball in your main bearings

do you really think i would gain all that much from changing out these brand new bearings? 89 are 8 balls right? I wish service honda sold the 88' complete! I'am waiting for the fed ex truck any day now for the stock 88 crank and a few other things to start assembly

sounds like your doing it right, its up to you if you want to swap em out or not. i have run the 86 bearings and i have run the 89

if your putting more power on top like a 330 or higher the 89 will probably help in bearing wear, by how much i really dont know, but the balls are fairly large so i would think one would help quite a bit

what kind of top end are you doing?

I have heard that the 1988 year crank is the best of all the long rod cranks. Is this true? I thought 87-89 were all the same.

88-89 cranks are the same. The 87 has the same rod length as the 88-89 but the clutch side of the shaft has a slightly different length.
