I got my son a used Kasea 50 when he was 5. It is really a nice machine. I have watched my neighbor and his brother in law shatter plastic on their "new" cut rate machines (Kazuma and a Red Cat, or something) - and so far the 5 year old Kasea has had none of their problems. Plus - the Kazuma has zero suspension and tips over real easy - dangerous.
Only drawback on the Kasea is the throttle cable actuating oil pump and carb - makes it a little heavy for little hands.

look into an eton, they're a little smaller and have many aftermarket parts available.
