I was looking into getting some nice mud tires for my 400ex. What is it about the tire that make the axle bearings wear quicker? Is it the height, width, pressure? Tread depth?

Basically, if I stick with the stock tire height, will I not have to worry about my bearings?

i have never heard of your bearings going out because of how big your tires were. they tend to go out when after being submerged in mud and water for extensive periods of time.

your bearings will go out quicker cause the bigger tire the more pressure you put on them like when you turn and maybe jump a little there heavier and wider so they grip the ground better therefore making the quad not want to turn so easy and the pressure created while turning gets takin out on your bearings i had to replace the axle carrier 6 times in my 300ex cause i had some go to heel tires on there and once they go out there is no getting the bearings out you have to order a whole new axle carrier but if they do come out which they will eventually get a lonestar dual row bearing carrier they have a good life expectecy.

so is tire height or width the real enemy here?

height and width play a part, most of your enemy is WEIGHT and wheel wobble. bigger tires the more movemnt you get in your rearend more wear/tear on the bearings.
