cylinder isn't round? skirt-to-wall clearance too much, or not enough? maybe? take it to a engine machine shop and have it 'snapped'.

how was the cylinder checked for concentricity, roundness, and taper?

Dont know if it was part of the problem or not, but your not supposed to be running the avdvanced timing key on anything BUT stock motors, because they will produce more heat. What kind of fuel are you running? Does it detonate at all before this happens? How did you know to look, did the motor lock up?

i did remove the timeing key when i went to the 440 and high compression i forgot to erase it from my sig but the fuel i was running was 112 camII purple and i allso have heavy duty head studs installed and a local high performance engine shop/machine shop checked all my clearences b4 build and the reasion i new was it locked up on me in a race but afterwords it would turn over

post some pics if you can, or take the cylinder/piston/rings to the 'local high performance engine shop/machine shop'. they should be able to tell what happened

did you warm it up before racing it? was it lean?

i found the problem well problems after tearing the bottom end apart the rod was stretched causing the front top of the piston to make contact with the deck of the head witch then forceed the backside of the skirt into the cylinder, allso one of mr crank bearing has a tad bit off slop witch all of this was replaced in build witch brings me to my conclusion that hot rods suck ballz if any one has a carillo rod plz let me know and thanks for all the help

just curious, but how did that go unnoticed? what was the quench clearance on the motor? you said a race motor shop checked everything. i don't see how that was missed. also, i dont see how the piston was hitting on one side unless the piston has excessive rock at TDC. especially considering the head gasket is like .030" thick. that alone should be enough clearance to avoid contact on a relatively small bore motor. i'm not doggin anyone, just curious.

oh yeah, Falicon makes a pretty awesome rod for the 400. its only like $170.
