does removing the choke really give much of a power increase?

From what I have read, it gives more of a crisper throttle response. a little bottom end, but mostly the crisp throttle on tap. Here is a tech article of the removal process. http://www.atvriders.com/articles/choke400ex.html

I took mine out and I thin it helped but it could be in my head!

i am not an expert but i did this and found if you tap the hole 1/4-20 then install an allen set screw with locktite it looks nicer than a bolt and hose clamp just tap part way through just enough meat left to seal
remember to clean out any filings

I think it cleans up the throttle response. No more power but a smoother pull across the board. It's a little harder to start when it's cold, so I tacked a short screwdriver to the idle adjustment screw. I can turn it up and down without taking my gloves off.

i dont think its harder to start, it is actually easier to start in my opinion. just hit the throttle about 4 or 5 times, fires right up. i had more trouble with the choke starting it then i did without it.

I took mine off when I rejetted, so I can't really tell if there is much difference with or with out it power-wise.

My bike was hard to start no matter what the weather before it was rejetted.

It is still a little hard starting at or below freezing temps, but any other time it starts right up.

a 42 pilot will make it start easily sans a choke. as long as you don't have a cheap ignition box. if so, put the stock back on and a 42 pilot, it'll start with a couple blips of the throttle choke or no choke.

I took mine out at the same time as I had it bored and put a cam in so theres alot of things that could have an effect on performance but from before to now there's a huge difference in throttle response and It still starts in 20 degree weather no problem just pump the throttle a few times before you start.
