i'm getting an insurance check for my dakota this week, and i found me a 91 chevy 1500 regular cab short bed. got a 350 with an auto tranny(only thing i don't care for) lifted 4 inches...mud tires, step bars, etc... the price is right, i think i'm gonna get it.

i also found a couple dodge 1500's (a 94 and a 96 for about the same price..)

i'm liking the chevy, my buddies got one and i like how it drives, looks, etc....

do i go with the older chevy or the newer dodge??

and if i hear one "go buy something foriegn..theyre so much better...blah blah blah...i'm gonna shove your rice burning matchbox toy up your ***

funnyest thing i've heard all day!!
my dads freind has a '95 F150 and the oil pan rusted out on it!! would you ever see that happen on a chevy? NOPE!

fords are just plain junk like look at the wheel camber... have you ever seen one that isn't sagging in the front end with out the front wheels worn on the inside? not that i've seen!

dodges are ok but there are soem lemons out there. i'd stay away from them as nice of a truck as they are.

you can't go wrong with a chevy, if somthing does go wrond parts are cheaper that ford/dodge. i must say i don't like the T- bar front ends but they do work good.at least when you put a chevy into 4x4 it will work unlike ford/dodge.

wait maybe you should buy foriegn and get a datsun
 j/k

don't want a ford. every mid-90's ford around here is a rust bucket. that and the body's from the factory are about as wavy as the atlantic ocean. lmao..i worked in a body shop for a year or so, and the first thing that i notice on a vehicle is the body. hmmm...no old fords for me.

however, i will be saving some money to buy myself a 2000-2002 or so F-250 superduty w/ a turbo diesel:devil: that is one ford i wouldnt mind driving

get the chevy! least problems of all trucks about that year. Ford had the TTB front end that was hell on tires and sucked off road. dodge you cant keep a tranny or rear-end in, but the chevy will last forever. But, IMO i would see if i could find a 96 or newer chevy, just because of the vortech engine. nothing wrong with TBI, but the vortech is more powerful with better fuel milage.

Which 450?

Why?

Everyone will say something about every company out there. They all have their problems. Some specific models are worse then the other companys comparable model. But they all have their perks and problems, bottom line!

you hit the nail on the head about the ford's and dodges ive been around. the mid 90's fords suck off roading. my little dakota would walk all over them up in the mountains around here. the only problem with the dakota was, like you said, the driveline. unknown to me at the time, it had the tranny replaced with one from a 97-?? the next thing to go was the rear end..blew the spider gears apart bad:devil: so after replacing the rear, i blew the t-case a few months after:D
haha..that truck gave me hell, but it sure was a good off roader.

think i'm gonna go with the chevy:devil: like i had said, i've done some offroading in my friends 92 stepside, and i like how it rides and handles. power is good too.
the truck will mainly be for off-roading, so street handling will go down the crapper.

I'm really a Dodge guy at heart and have had a chevy for a while and my Dodge for the last 2 years along with all my friends who switched to dodge after their chevy's died.. I'd go for the Dodge unless you can find a chevy with the vortech. The old 350's and 305's were a little poochy. Avoid the 318 as well in the Dodges unless your going to put some mods in it, they are a little underpowered for a full size truck.

I had a 96 Ram with the 318 and that thing couldn't pull a golf cart. I now have the 360 and what a difference. A bit of advice though, stay away from the 94's! They had alot of problems that year because of the new makeover for the ram. Some people that worked for Dodge had given me that advice so..........take it or leave it:eek2:

I'm a Chevy guy also, but if you're looking to wheel it and lift it, then maybe you will want a dodge. My main reason for this is the solid front axle, much cheaper to lift.

Bottom line is that everything breaks, no matter who makes it. Get what you want and be happy.

What's wrong with the 6.0? Or did your buddies daddies friends uncles daughters boyfriends stepfather have troubles with his after not running any oil in it?:D

My dad had a 2005 Chevy 2500 HD 6.0L for his work truck and never had a problem with it, he was in love with that truck...then Minnesota switched over to having Fords for work trucks, he hates everything about that truck.

its all in what you like. i got a 97 Chevy with 162k miles on it and i love it. a guy i know worked at a Ford dealer for more than 20 years and he drives chevy's. I heard from a guy that works at a Dodge dealer that they had more than 10 hemi's come in on warranty b/c they're busting the top of the pistons off.
i would go with the Chevy

I've heard of a lot of Hemi's doing that, anyone know why?

that would be a duramax LBZ 6.6 engine if your talking diesels, cause chevy never offered a 6.0 diesel always 6.5 or 6.6. Odds are it has the allison behind it which is a bulletproof combo. If you want a truck to last, get that. They are beasts of a truck!

I just bought a 2001 chev 2500HD ECSB 4x4 in orange. Its a HOT truck! it has a 6.0 with a L80behind it. it moves pretty good but the crappy GM torque management screws it up!:(

I heard it was because of the design of the piston. rings are to close to the top.
