on an '06 airfilter, what is the purpose of the aluminum insert. would it be better to run it w/ it on or off? also, do you guys reccomend running it (no engine/carb mods) w/o the airbox lid? i didnt use one on my 250R but i dont wanna screw up a new bike. thanks for the help!

The insert is there so when you tighten down the band on the air filter it doesn't crush the rubber tube that goes to the carb,

the stock flange isn't thick enough to hold itself up, so Honda had the ingenious idea to add something to reduce emissions and seriously choke down the intake and exhaust. I would go with an aftermarket filter that has a new inner cage and thicker flange like one from Pro-Design or a K&N. You can get prefilters for either setup.
