Did you install a aftermarket cam when you had it apart?

If it ticks when the rockers are getting ready to push on the valves, you need to set your clearance on the rockers.

If it's as you say, and it makes a ticking noise when your valves are pushed all the way open and they start to close again.. I really have no idea, unless your timing is so far off that the piston is tapping the valves just before they close.

ok i have turned the motor over both ways wrom the fly wheel and no mater how slow or fast it still ticks even when it is turned over backwards it ticks just as it starts to bring the valves up what could make it do this.

Check and make sure the valves rnt getting hung up and then releasing thereselves and making the tick.
