I'm switching from the stock gearing and wanted to know what a good combination frnt/rear sprocket would be. I'm thinking about 15/36. I want to be quicker off the start and outta corners, without losing 4th gear top end. Any suggestions?

15/36 is what i'm going to if my sprocket ever gets here. this was suggested to me from some reliable sources on this board, so i would say go for it. (this is assuming you're using 18" rear tires).

Sweet! There is a race tommorrow at Crosscreek MX (http://www.crosscreekmx.com) if you want to test it out there. It's round 2 of the Stars over Texas (http://www.stcmx.com/) night series. hope to see you there!

I heard a 14-37 is a good combo. ;)

What does 36 tooth sproket do for you in mx? I want alot of low end and mid and maybe keep my top end. Also anyone heard of talon sprokets? Thanks

Can you run a 16 tooth front with the stock case-saver?

it just gets you closer to stock gearing if you're running 18" rears. when i went to 18s, i essentially lost a gear, and didn't really care for the change. i don't know how to explain it well, but i just can't get used to the gearing being that low. it seems harder to tell what gear your in. make sense?

i've talked to some racers who actually go further and drop to a 14 in the front and it makes it super-low geared. the 15/36 gearing is supposedly a nice mix when running 18s. i'll find out tomorrow...

i don't think the stock case-saver will work with a 16, but there are aftermarket ones that will, and i don't think they're too expensive, although i don't know the brand or where to get them.

btw, you coming down to any more tqra races?

I'd just drop a couple teeth on the rear sprocket if it was me. Much more than that and you may lose some time off the start and out of the tight corners; unless you are running a big bore, then you might be able to drop 3 teeth and still have enough torque to pull it off.

Hey Razorback, I hope to make the next TQRA at badlands, but I am waiting on some Houser a-arms for the 400. I am selling my R. Know anyone looking for one?

Personally I feel it is personal prefrence. I would play around with different sizes adn see what feels comfortable to your riding style.

well, i tried my 15/36 combination this weekend, and i can definitely say thumbs up! i really like the change from the 15/38 stock setup with 18" rear tires. with the smaller rear tires, this setup is a nice mix for the track. it's still geared down a little from the stock sprocket/tires setup, but it's high enough to actually get decent speed in 3rd and 4th gears. with the stock sprocket and 18" rear tires setup, i never felt like i was in the right gear, because i run third gear a lot on the track and i was always winding it out very quickly. now it's much better, so i definitely recommend the 15/36 combo.

i have the 15/36 combo with the 18 inch tires and it just about the same as stock accept i think the top end is a little faster. i drag raced my friend and it was dead even off the start but i had a little more top end speed. i like the combo a lot.
