I'm in the middle of a rebuild and just wondering if a JE or wiseco piston would be better then stock
and if i get this piston do i need a aftermarket exhaust
or does anythign else have to be done for these pistons
thanx

if u go with a high comp piston it will be better than stock because it will give u more power. u dont have to get a new exhaust but its recommended 4 the best performance.

many of the aftermarket pistons are quite a bit lighter too.

an aftermarket exhaust is not needed. it will help for the power quite a bit though.

i was gonna rebuild mine soon and want the stock reliability and run pump gas (93 octane). do they make a 3 ringer 12:1 piston

The lighter piston makes the quad rev a lot faster than a stock one. It also gives u power everywhere

We just installed a JE 13:1 piston in my 450r last nite, and can't wait to try it out. I have to wait a couple weeks, because my frame is getting gusseted and pc'd.. also waiting on suspension parts to arrive..

I know when I installed my 13:1 JE piston in my 450R it was a dramatic difference in power. Going from a stock 450R to a 450R with HRC kit was a big difference too. But once I put that high compression 13:1 JE piston in along with a Rossier shorty exhaust, it was like trying to hold on to a bucking horse. The power is certainly there now. I can't say which one gave me the most power because I installed them both at the same time. I would recommend that you put an aftermarket exhaust on with the piston. It's not going to hurt your quad any, it will most definitely improve the power a whole lot! Good Luck!

Sorry to intrude this thread, but what jetting is everyone running with a 13.1 comp piston??

I have a JE 13.1 piston, HC st 2 cam, porting, FCR carb, sparks full exhaust, and open air box.

BTW JE would probably be the better piston to go with, but remember race fuel should be consider when buying high compersion pistons. So if you are unable to get race fuel or don't want to run race fuel go with a comp ratio of 12.1 or lower.
Then again your cam also plays a role in the octane required.

13:1 stock bore JE piston, HRC kit, HMF slip on, 700' elevation.
-#50 pilot
-HRC needle on middle position
-185 main
