my dad's 2002 kawasaki 650 prairy is a demo and has 26" gators and has went through 2 motors, a front end, and a new front axle.i was driving along and it was spitting and sputtering and working like **** then i looked down and oil came out through the gap between the plastic on the handle bars and over the air box the oil looked and smelled like gear oil and not motor oil and it looks like the oil came from the motor. i took it out of the garage and it was smoking i checked the oil and it was empty i put a little bit of oil into it and it quit smoking but was still working like **** did i blow it up or what?

The only oil that can come up between your handle bar area is that of the two vent hoses. One is on your rear differential just to the right of where your brake cable attach and the other is on the front differential at the top. It wasn't motor oil, there are no vent hoses up there for that. Good luck, and never trade in a prairie for a Honda.

i have discovered what happened as the oil goes up into the motor it is alot thicker when it get's cold and it stays up there and comes out the over flow so is i have to do is change to synthetic oil
