i wish they made these fourstrokemotor's last longer! 50 hours on a CRF and its a beat duck! they improve engine designs but make them last alot less amount of time! i think they do it to keep you comin back for new ones!!! my old 2 stroke will get more than 50 hours no problem!

whats your point?

Once its beat you can re-build and invest in some aftermarket parts for the motor. I look at it as an opportunity/excuse to buy high performance replacement parts.

been there done that , the idea is to have a machine you KNOW wont be beat in no time! i prefer to ride much rather than modify .

cars and trucks last longer but not the bikes , sad

im not lookin for trouble so dont supply it !!

yah, whats up with bike motors these days, the 4-strokes dont sound very reliable to me, i dont hear alot of good about them.
no problems with 4-stroke quads tho

my brother has the Honda 450R, he said the same thing. He has to rebuild every 100-150hrs?

They told him new piston, rings, valves and even possibly crank bearings?!?!?!?

Averaging over a $1000 per rebuild!?!?!??

I'll stick with my 400ex;)

kid? i heard he was like 28.

mudroost i agree with you on the riding over modifying. i can take 60% of the guys i come across with bigbores and highcomp pistons because they spend all their time modifying. never underestimate a skilled rider.

no, he is 28! they did an interview with him on "E". he has a rare genetic disorder that makes him look young. if you dont believe me, type it in google and look for the interview! pretty messed up hugh:eek2:

It certainly does appear that way Dupontster.

the reason the old 4 strokes are still around is because they were low rpm slow power generating engines and nobody rode them very hard. How hard and how often you ride will detirmine the life of your engine, as well as your preventative maintenance. And the same goes for the life of your 2 strokes....not really anything to do with the new motors, They rev faster produce more power and are run harder so they are going to require more attention and rebuilds

are you racing your bike? or just ridding in the backyard with friends? racing b class maybe a class 50-75 hours i would say is a good piston. pro am riders get like 20 hours. they change em out once a month

those oldies have been around for YEARS and i know people who have riden the craphole out of them myself included they are built alot better , agreed that the produce more power but still you shouldnt need to repair your engine every 50 HOURS thats REDICULOUS!!!!!! clearely not madef like they used to .

I have to agree . My buddy bought a brand new CRF 250 last year and it was nothing but problems for him . The valves kept tightening themselves for some reason and he had to rebuild it 3 times in 1 year .

We still have an old 86 Honda TRX 250 at the cottage and I've put the quad through hell when I was younger ..... It's still running in top shape . I'm sure it could use a new set of rings at the least , but until it stops on us , we're not gunna play around with it ... 20 years and counting .

Generally people who drive CRFs are willing to shell out the money for rebuilds in return for a fast bike.

If you don't like that, a trail bike is for you.

what do you think of the YFZ engine for a non racing application ? i am in the midst of buying a new machine and i am hesistant which one will be best for me , i ride trail and flat land . ive always had a thing for those yfz450s! but im just not sure about the motor!
