Hey i am changing the oil in my 450r for the first time and the guy at the shop told me to use HP trans oil SAE80w/85w i read the back and it says it is for 2 stroke hondas does this matter?

i am not sure if that matters or not but i would look in the manual and use what it sais.
no..thats what me and all my friends run in our 450r's. It only says 2 strokes because back in the day only 2 strokes had a seperate tranny sump so they just havent changed the bottle. RUN THAT STUFF IN YOUR ENGINE, its good stuff!

so the 450r has motor oil and seprate trans oil?

yeah. It was mainly designed so when the quad is running off level, one side of the motor doesnt get more oil than the other. Smart idea if you ask me.

Yuuup and you can run the same oil on both sides with no harm.

That is not a good rule of thumb!!! Running any engine oil, with the newer friction modifiers, in the clutch side will cause slippage. Maybe not at first, but it will build up on the fibers eventually. Be careful what you put in there.
