If i read your post correctly you bought them for your LTZ and are selling them b/c they were for and EX. Those two shocks are compatible and interchangable and will work on either bike w/o modifications

the z400 shocks are 16 7/8 inches, the 400ex are 16 1/4. i dont want to lose that travel, and i dont want it sitting so low. I had also planned on using them on my ltr but those are 17 inches, i cant use either one. so thier for sale.

Aceltz is a good guy to deal with. I bought some stuff from him a while back and he's very honest.

Shocks from a 400EX will not fit a Z-400, the 400EX shocks are 3/4inch shorter.
When used on a Z-400 the frame clearance will be too low and if you hit a hard impact and have the shocks bottom out you will be bending tie-rod and have chances of breaking parts.
If you use a Z-400 shock on a 400EX you will be putting strees on the ball joints (and will have them break eventually), ride height will also be high off the ground.
Almost none of the ATV manufacture use the same geometry for shocks, shocks are never inter-changable from a quad to another.
