250sx Kickstart Problem!

Just got a 1985 250sx..bike is mint..but Kickstart wont grad, and I can't jump start it, it wont grab..whats going on here?

do you not have compression? or will the bike just not start, but you have compression?

I know on a 250x quad, if kick starter has ever been taken off...when you put it back on you have to put it on in a way that kind of loads up the spring so that the kicker will engage. So if your kicker has ever been off then that could be the problem

Bike has compression..well the guy I got it from, said that after he got the engine job done the kickstart would only grab sometimes, so Im guessin theres a fricked up spring somewhere

I bet some meathead didnt get the kick start gear in there properly, pull the side cover and check the way the gear messes together. Ive had that problem before,There is a half gear inside that actuates a cam that pushes a gear into the fly wheel ring gear. Hard to explain but it isnt rocket science. Good luck

Thanks for the help Boys, the kickstarter gear was not in place..and I needed a one way clutch, but was able to find a good running motor for 100 bux..so I got er going with a spare engine now!
