The wife just got a new gateway with a 17inch flatscreen monitor, WOW:eek2:

I always wondered why people would comment on my pictures and such, now I know:p On my computer they look nothing like they do on this monitor!

So, now I just have to get a better monitor, but this one came with this computer......which one should I get:confused:

Yeah damn technology ..... just keeps costing me more and more money . I'm gunna have to invest in a new monitor .... mine is starting to screw up ... it flickers really bad ...to the point where I had to adjust it and not use the bottom 1/4 of the screen . :grr:

No doubt! With a new monitor you can see all kinds of things you've been missing.
Go get yourself a new 17'' monitor. Flat screen or regular type (crt), your choice.

We're too old to be holding off. I bought a 19''flatscreen recently.

By the way we got a new computer and moniter for Christmas and the picture is so much better.

Heres what you do. Go by circuit city or bestbuy and look at thier monitors. I would recommend a flat screen LCD (liquid crystal display) over a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube). Ive seen some 17'' flat screens that have a nice picture for about $200-$225 or so.
17'' CRT monitors are about $99-125 and have a nice picture also
Go with a 17''!
My 19" Samsung LCD cost me about $375 but i could have gotten by with a 17"" just fine, but it was a whim buy. I do love it though.:p

I didn't think that was possible to do .

You know with a screen that size you could almost pull up a picture of Pappy's 450R , stand in front of the screen and pretend you're riding it .

Is it better to go with a monitor made by the same company that your computer is made by .... or it doesn't really matter . We have an HP system that isn't very old ( 2 years) and the monitor seems like it's already starting to fry . When I priced out the HP monitors they were quite expensive , but I seen other name brands at lower prices . I didn't know if it was possible or not .... electronics make me scratch my head .

Greg, Its does not matter what brand monitor you use. Its like tires on a quad.

Yep.. the native resolution of my TV is 1280x720P and I have a DVI and VGA connector on it. Since its a DLP I have no worries about buring in the screen. At my old place I could run a small patch cord and use my black box video extenders. Now in my new house I need to come up with a new plan... my desktop is too far away and my laptop does not output the correct resolution to fill the screen.

Same here sort of. I hooked the s-video from my laptop to my TV and I can see the windows XP logo load up, but as soon as it loads the drivers i get a black screen. I suppose i could figure it out if I wanted too. Its prob the laptop is too old, its a Dell P-3. I did the lcd/s-video switch on the laptop but that didnt help.

That is going to be cool as hell when you fire up your comp on your bigscreen:blah:

I purchaced a 17" Samsung LCD for my brother as a christmas present, very nice monitor that was on sale

I woould definitely shopr around and see what is on sale, that wasmy big deciding factor, but I know EVERY LCD at school is an NEC and I have never seen one broken, or with a bad picture

I know back in the day, 10-12 years ago NEC made some top notch CRT's. I'm sure they still make a great product today.

There are only a few companies that make the LCD and plasma techmology in the world but many brands that market it as their own. LCD has more longevity on it's side (less de-pixelation over time). Go to Best buy, circuit city or wherever and see what looks the best and buy that model or make, either at the store or online.
