View Full Version : Stock Needle
I have two questions:
Is the stock 400ex needle adjustable?
Does the little washer go on top or underneath the clip on the needle?
Thanks for any help.

My 2002 400ex is adjustable. I put the dynojet washer on top of the e-clip

Dynojet sends you a needle that is adjustable. The stock one is not. The washer goes on top of the E-ring.

The stock needle is adjustable, comes from the factory in the 3rd position with 2 above and below.

The stock needle is adjustable. There are five postions and i've heard there is a shim available to make '1/2' adjustments.
If the Dyno jet kit is used the needle that comes with it must be used.
The needle we have has 6 grooves in it and not 5...WTF kind would that be...hmmmmm

That's interesting.
99-04 needle part number is 16012-HN1-003.
05-06 needle part number is 16012-HN1-A41.

Correct, and the air/fuel mixture screw takes a special tool.

That's the way the 05/06 stock needles are. You must also keep in mind that the new models also have a larger stock carb than the 99-04's.;)

Thanks for clearing that up;) :)
As for the carb being bigger, has anyone confirmed this? Last I heard the stock carb has an oval bore and the original size was an average of the two demensions. The current size is the larger of the two demensions
