I need to replace my chain and sprocket set for my 250x. I don't need the best, but want to get good stuff that will do the job well. Where is the best place to get a chain and sprocket set from? I would like to keep the price down, but still want a quality O-ring.

Browse through a Dirt Wheels mag. Plenty of aftermarket companies carry sprocket and chain packages. And some even offer free shipping. I recommend going with steel sprockets. ALuminum rears are really for racing purposes only. They do wearout faster than steel.

What about the chain? I know O-ring is a lot better, but is there a certian chain level I need to get over to have a chain that will last?

I have looked through the mag, but the kits are what I am wondering about. Like which kit is enough but not over kill.

Would the gold series chain be good?

Thanks

if you go with stainless steel spockets get A VERY HIGH QUALITY CHAIN because you have to replace them all as a set if I remember right. O rings arn't always better I think because they are a lot harder to clean but they are a must if you want them to last with a high quality sprocket.

The RK O-ring kit from Recreation unlimited will work just fine for you. It's $90 and they have free shipping.

Stainless steel sprockets are nice, but they're pricey.

The RK kit will last you. I had one on my 400ex, and everything was like new after a year. On a 250x, I wouldn't spend $150 on chain and sprockets. I think it'd be an overkill.

I'll save you a lot of time searching, I just did this for my 300ex this spring.

Magic Racing has package deals, the racers package has a RK o-ring chain, (I can't remember the sprocket manufacturer) but you'll have it at your door for $75. There's another package that's cheaper, and also a couple that are more $$.
