Well after fixing my quad last week. (Timing skipped) I went out riding in the local pits all day today. When I got home I saw my header was turning blue in spots but not like all over. I rebuilt the carb last week also, and it was running great all day. I do have the carb a bit lean, the clip on the needle for the carb is on the second notch leaner. Could the color change be because I'm too lean?
Its a Sparks pipe by the way.

my r header turned blue hmf full exhaust.called hmf.they and every-one else says it's all normal.i really wasn't happy with that thou.i went up 1 size with my slow jet,and it does glow any-more.so my opinion is that yes it's to lean.plus it's a little more peppy comming out of the hole.....

The paper work that came with my yosh said it should be a gold colour. It said that blue or purple and your to lean. This info is only good for a stainless system though, Ti turns blue/purple and thats normal.

Ive always heard that when your head pipe turns blue, It means that you are jetted correctly. Dont know if it is true or not.

Head pipe color (i.e. patina--not color as in red hot) is an unreliable indicator of right/wrong jetting. There are too many variables such as head design, pipe design, pipe material, pipe finish, etc.

Here is one thing I DO know. The stock 400EX header will actually glow read on occasion. BONE STOCK, stock filter, stock exhaust, stock jetting, stock everything.

If it runs like that off the factory floor, I'd say it's normal.

Almost all bikes come from the factory with lean jetting settings. Thank the EPA for that.
