How easy is it to crack the 2003 z400 frame? do you have to be skying off of jumps or is it going to happen sooner or later with little jumps?

from what ive herd you have to be jumping pretty decent sized jumps. i take mine off of small ones all the time, nothing more than 5 feet of air and mines fine.

Buy a Bare Performance gusset kit right away. Then you will never have to worry.

how much does it cost and is it a pain to have it installed?

75 bucks for the kit and you install the gussets. Its not a big pain, they did a good job designing the kit.

I think the most vulnerable spot is the shock mounts. mine cracked about 8 months after i got it. look for paint chips and rust on the welds.

IMO the lonestar kit is much better. I've had both and ended up selling the bare kit on ebay. For instance the bare kit welds 2 pieces to the shock mount where lonestar welds 5. lonestar also welds a solid piece of steel through the frame where the rear shock mounts up.

I have 2 03s and both have been rode hard in xc races and neither have cracks in the fram and I also dont have a gusset kit on either of them. I am getting ready to install a Bare kit on one of them though. As for the some bikes cracking real fast and others going forever theres always flukes in every "rule" You'll always find an exception to everything like one bike going forever... and one guy telling you that his fram snapped in no time. So whatever you do know that theres gonna be some down side but none the less the z-400 is a strong bike and wont let you down especially if you buy one that hasnt been just rodded on and not taken care of.
