Ok I have a 2001 400EX on the rear axle where you loosen the 4 allen bolts and you turn that casting that tightens the chain. That casting is busted in half on my four wheeler. How do I remove that to put in a new one? I have to get this switched out asap. The part is around 300 itself and I dont want to spend aonther 200 for someone else to do it if I can do it myself. I appreciate all the help.

You'd get more luck in "Steering and Suspension". Heres a quick run down.

Take off your rear right tire, take off the hub, loose off the lock nut(it's a left thread so it's clock wise loose). Back the main nut off and take the ring off the axle, take that hole assembly off, then it's snap ring time, take the snap ring off, pull the next bit off. Take the chain off the sprocket, and slid the axle out, make sure those 4 allen key bolts are loose and pull the carrier out(that casting you are talking about). There are a few (atleast 1) o-rings I didn't mention in there.

Hope that helped. I'd sugget getting a Clymer or Honda service manual to help in your ATV servicing.

Dual row bearing carriers can be found for about $150 or so, with bearings.
