I can get a set of works piggy back pro series triple rate shocks and get them revalved for my weight for about 500 bucks(All for my 04 400ex) or i can get 450r shocks for 200 bucks and get them resprung fror my 400ex for a total of 600 bucks what is my better deal?

get the works, aftermarket is just built better with better quality stuff, and also performs differently, 450 shocks r fully adjustable, but i bet u'd end up happier with the works

the works will be better

I have to disagree with you on the Works shocks vs the 450R reworked shocks.

The 450R shocks have more adjustability unless you want to go with the real high dollar Works and if youre going to do that, then you might as well go with Elka or PEP.

Derisi Racing, GT Thunder, and Im sure others will rework the 450R stockers so that they will WAYYYY outperform the Works shocks.

Just my $.02 worth. Your mileage may vary.

I agree i have the works dual rate with rezzies on my 2 stroke and they dont even compare to my stock 06 450r shocks!!!!

Its your quad and ultimately your decision. All that I KNOW is that the 450R shocks have higher quality components than the works (other than the G4 or Black Widows) and can be setup anyway that you want them.

Your call. Just remember that with revalving, respringing, reshafting if necessary, new bumpers, bushings, etc on the Works, your cost can rise pretty quickly.

Ask Colby from C&D (and he doesnt even do the 400 setup with 450R shocks). Ask Wolfpack on this site. Ask Santo DeRisi. Ask GT Thunder. Dont take my word for it. I think that youre going to get the same answer. Go with the 450R shocks setup for the 400.

Keep us posted as to what you do.

i'd say go with the stock 450r shocks. Before i bought my ST elkas i bought some Triple Rate works for my 450r and i hated them compared to my stock shocks. If i were you i'd get the 450r shocks and do a respring and revalve, and i believe you'd be much happier.. plus at least you'd get more money outta them if you tryed to sell them.. works don't have much resale value at all.. to me they are junk.. ~Jay

Santo Derisi, GT Thunder and others will rework the 450R shocks to work properly with the 400ex

I like the 450R shocks over Works. I had Works and I didn't think the quality was that great (but then again, they were Steelers). The springs bowed and the spring separators rubbed and binded on the body. I put a set of +2 a-arms and a used set of 450R shocks on my 400ex and the wheel travel is much smoother and more controlled. I especially didn't like the fact that the Works were emulsiuon type shocks (no res). Without the GT Thunder mod, the compressed length is a little shorter than it could be, but is comparable to stock. They are still very useable, though; I just place 2nd in Production B at WORCS in Lake Havasu with mine.

how do you guys feel about these ebay item #4621487179 they are set for my weight and if i get them for 500 it will be 125 dollars cheaper then buying 450r shocks and then getting them revalved these are the good works or do they still stink!?

I'd agree with most on here.. I run a full set of works shocks. Fronts being steeler AT's fully adjustable and an Ultracross rear fully adjustable.

I'd go with the 450r revalved setup.. or a set of Elkas.

The Works are 1000x better than the stock 400ex or 300ex shocks, but reworked 450r shocks, or Elkas are 10x better than the Works.

I think you'll be happier with a 450 revalve than with the Works.

I am in the same boat as most.I bought the 450r fronts new and installed them on my ex and the front end looks ready for takeoff and it rides harsh.I had buddies that used the steelers and they were built cheaply. The hondas have alot better build quality.I guess I am going to send my shox out to Derisi or GT Thunder for a revalve respring.I guess GT also cuts them down to make them shorter and uses a dual rate spring kit?I wonder if he just uses the Works triple spring kit and doesnt use one of the springs because of the cut down length?GT says he can get 12 inches of travel with the r shox on the ex with this mod.Does anybody have the GT modded 450r fronts on their ex??I would love to hear from you...I am gonna try and sort out the rear kicking by adjusting preload and comp/rebound settings.

I just got my GT Thunder re-built fronts and his XC link and a re-valved rear for my 400ex. GT Thunder used progressive springs on the fronts and a single rate spring on the rear shock.

After modifying the top eyelet and mounting the fronts, I noticed that my ride height to be around a perfect 7 3/4" to 8"

I have not had a chance to ride the quad yet, however I'm sure that it will be a night and day difference.

When I get home later today I will post some pictures of my 400EX with my NEW GT Thunder suspension!
