I have been looking to buy a utility quad, and I really like sportsman 800, but it seems that no one on this site likes them or writes about them. Is polaris not a good quad?

I had a 03 Honda Rancher 350 4x4 and was looking for something bigger. I saw the Polaris Sportsman 500 HO.. All my friends said no their no good. Went and test drove one. Did my homework. I am now the proud owner of a 04 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO. 4x4. I had 1 recall I had to get fixed on it, but other than that it has been trouble free and very fun to ride. Polaris's old bad rep. is whats scaring people away. Go test drive the Sportsman 800 and i'll bet you'll like it. All in all Polaris ATVs are just as good as all the other brands out their and I would recommend them to anyone. JMO

eff polaris the sportman rides real nice and smooth has ok power but it dosent handle like my Prairie. I ride my prairie like a sport quad and i can through it around nicely. i am 6'4" though so maybe that helps. It also jumps pretty nice and wheelies like crazy with a new cdi. I wouldnt buy a polaris they are just overpriced and slow. check out a kawasaki prairie or bruteforce you will have a lot more fun.

how do you find the prairie for tippyness? is it stable? that's a concern i have about a utility.

ive heard thet the sportsman 800 has been melting plastic because the egnine gets to hot?

And yes, the P700 is kinda easy to get on the side 2 wheels because of all the power, but they are really fun to ride, and sounds really nice, if you get the P700, you will be satified

Yeah, the Prairie 650 and 700 are good atvs too. Yeah, the Sportsman 800 has been melting the plastic, but I don't think it is due to the engine. I think it is the exhaust heat, but they make a heat wrap to solve that problem. Polaris's arn't that slow. I raced a bored out kawi 400 prairie with mine just with a winch and killed him. Raced an old dirt bike, recon, and 400 ex. and killed both the dirt bike and recon and just a little behind the 400 ex.. I won't say its fast, but i'm defantly not saying its slow either. JMO

the prairie sits lower than the polaris so it has less ground clearence but its worth it cause the handling is so good. just lean in and wfo hang on cause your ridin a wheelie just about anywhere

Replace the front springs on the Sp800 with the MV7 springs you got from a pre-load of 75-111 too 75-170 in'lbs and you got a whole new ride. The Sp line has some soft springs up front and that hurts it in the corners. I can throw my 700 around pretty well at 6.0 and 230 and the AWD will pull the front around a turn even with the inner frt tire a foot off the ground. Just give it some gas and the back will slid a bit more and keep you glued to the ground. I like mine and don't have any gripes except the seat gets warm and a nice cermic coating on the exhaust will fix that.
