i just put new oil in my 400 and it is smoking excessivly out of the exhaust. what could this be also the side of the motor where the headers go is all black behing the heatshield?

did you drain all of the oil out when you changed it? the first time i changed oil in my ex i didnt get all the oil out and over filled it and it smoked alot . did smoke at all before you changed oil?

before i changed it it barly smoked at all. but now its crazy i keep checkin the oil though

i use john deere tracotr oil, but the question is what oil do you use?

You may have overfilled it the 400's usually hold a little less than 2 qts. So check into that.

did you drain the oil tank and the crank case?

yea and i put royal purple racing oil in it max cycle

now its smoking more than a 2 stroke could the rings be bad?

blue smoke? what does the dipstick say?

no its still white smoke mainly when im half throttle in each gear.
