What would you say is the biggest you can bore the stock cylinder and keep life and longivity of the stock cylinder?

I know powroll offers the 20 over kit.

but can you go more?

i was thinking about 30 or 40 over, running a bigger carb if needed, and maybe a pipe, but I might want to keep the pipe stock to keep the noise down stock db's.

Will the stock shaft hold up?, can you get a heavy duty shaft?

any input?

I know the 250ex has a displacement of 229 which is kinda low considering they say it's a 250 lol.

lets here it guys.

trade it in on a 450r and you will have reliability, horsepower and can keep it quiet with a stock pipe plus much better suspention

see most of you guys on here have the bigger quads.

I want something smaller, but with power.

don't need 400 cc's or 450 either.

don't need 12" of travel. either, mostly flat field, and wooded trails, and yard, some street also.

and how can you trade something in when you haven't went and bought it yet lol

why not a 300ex then? much more parts available for it and easier to find parts for. plus you wont outgrow it nearly as fast as you would a 250ex. teh 300ex has so many more options if you decide to go with better suspension and more power later down the road.

one deciding factor about the 300 is it still looks like it from the 1990's

they should have redesigned it when they did the 250 and 400..but my luck is i'll get a 250 or the outdated 300 this year and then next year they'll redesign it

and with the 250 it has the sport clutch which allows new riders to learn how to use the clutch without stalling, and it can be used or not be used.(my wife is new to the clutch thing, she is used to the atc's of yesteryear lol)

The problem is that the 250EX is shaft-drive. Without the ability to change your gearing, mods are almost pointless. As a result, mods are difficult to come by.

Honestly, like I advised you last time, go ahead and get the 250EX, but forget any idea of modifications. In stock form it will give you something to learn on, something to have fun, and your wife will probably never outgrow it.

However, YOU will outgrow it. Fast. There aren't enough modifications in the world available to keep you interested in that 250EX in the long run.

Do you see how everybody is telling you to forget trying to modify the 250EX? There's a reason for that.

i just can't stand the way the 300's look. i'm not against getting one, but don't want to dump another 300-400 into it changing to 400 ex plastics or something like that.

I suppose I really didn't answer your question.

There aren't too many engine kits available for the 250EX. The powroll kit uses the stock sleeve. To go any bigger, you would need to resleeve, and nobody makes a resleeve big-bore kit for a variety of reasons.

The 250EX will never be a racer, so nobody is really willing to put research time and money into deveoping high-performance kits. Anybody that actually wants high performance in the 250cc range uses a 250x or 300EX. As a result, there are numerous engine kits for these machines, even some upwards of 400cc.

Likewise for the camshaft, nobody is willing to develop high-performance camshafts for the 250EX.

If it's a friendly, easy, beginner quad you're looking for, the 250EX is good. If you're looking for "smaller, but with power", the 250EX will NOT get you there.

400ex's are fairly inexpensive since the 450r, i would advise getting an 05' or left over '04 for not much more thana 250

southernhonda.com don't have any 05's either. but their still to high for the 06's

i'm not spending more than 3500, and i don't want used. cuz i know wut quads go through, they are bought to ride and rode they get.....most get it hard also. I don't want anyone elses problem, I always start out new when i get toys and such.

I'm looking for a small quad with some guts, and this one holding true from everything i hear about it.. if I get a 20 over kit for it, that will prolly be good, give it an extra punch.....i don't need 4th clutch the front up and over power.... don't need 60mph.

need something to get out and have some fun on.

I'm going tomorrow to test out a 06 250 after work and see how i like it. 3240 otd.

thats not always true.i bought a used 01 250 ex for my wife for 2100.00.only has a scratch in the frontnose and tweaked front bumper other than that it looks and runs like a new one.just gotta go looka t a few used to get a good one.and to be honest i have more fun just playing around on the 250than i do on my 400.i can wheelie the 250 farther and easier than my 400.its just not fast enough though.but isa great little quad.im hopeing the sport clutch from the 06 will fit on the older ones.this way the wife can learn to use a clutch without wrecking mine
