Pretty cool that your straight cause I never really rode a z400 so I dunno which is better, but you can't go wrong with the ex.

Why would you say that?

kfx/z is better in all aspects besides torque and reliability

I wouldn't say all aspects. The 400EX has a much better handling chassis than the Z.

The Z has the liquid cooling advantage. It is newer technology as well, so it will respond better to mods than the 400EX will.

I'm not talking about stock machines with stock crap shocks either.

One thing I don't like about the Z is the higher CG compared to the EX. I just don't like the feel in comparison.

Each one has their advantages and disadvantages, and I've owned both machines. And in my book the 400ex is a better choice especially if your buying an 06 with reverse. Yea the Z's may be liquid cooled, but its makes it that much harder to work on. And with the 400ex being air cooled, it is soo simple to work on. The Z's are VERY high maintence, and even when maintained greatly, they still have alot of probs. Handling Z dont compare in my book, 400ex beats it hands down in handling. Power wise, I like how the ex responds better, top end the Z will get it. Bus lots of times that wont matter. Parts are cheaper and way easier to obtain for the ex than the Z. I never had any mechanical problems at all really with my 400ex, my kfx is in the shop weekly, as a matter of fact its in there now. Yet, I maintain it constantly, yea, yea I know stuff breaks, But it shouldn't break constantly.

This is all my opinion, even though I am being as honest as possible. BTW the Z isn't much better in any aspects.

i dont know what all this talk about super high maintenance is about.

i own BOTH machines, and i stand by what i said earlier.

I love hte z. all I've done is nerf bars, and a 13 tooth front sprocket( 1 tooth smaller) and I love it. I'm 185lbs, and it'll pick the front wheels up anytime, anywhere ( cept ice) But I love the thing. Can't go wrong with a z400. ;)

I agree with ya prepracing, those would be the two main things I would look for in getting a quad

I'd say go with the KFX/Z/DVX400. Great quads and they aren't unreliable at all. They do handle great but also have a higher center of gravity like mentioned before, compared to the 400ex at least. I've put a lot of time on both 400's and I love both of them, but personally I think the Z400 would be the better choice overall. It will be a little bit harder to work on but it's worth it if you plan on going beyond stock.

another thing i look for in a quad is the ability not to over heat like a B I T C H in the desert when run hard.

400ex is good too. there's a reason i have both.

I've ridden both, and can agree with most of the stuff said here. The 400EX is probably a little reliable, but the Z400 is still a great quad. In all honesty, sit on both of them and see which one feels better to you. I really like the feel of the Z400 over the 400EX, but that is my opinion.

I've ridden both. Completely stock I thought the Z400 handled a little better throughout the corners. Liquid cooled is nice to have. If you want a used Z400 mine is for sale $5200. Ready for whatever you want it to do and cheaper than an 06.

Here is the link. Very fast and reliable!

I don't know.. but I would assume that little to none because the 450r is Honda's main " Race Quad." I doubt that they would settle for less if they did not have to. :macho

Also, I agree on what most people have said on the Z... it is an excellent quad and quite enjoyable for pretty much anybody.
