I have been trying to figure this out for sometime now. I know that Yamaha has a lot of interchangeable parts and motors designed after one anther. What I would like to do is upgrade my Blaster to be liquid cooled and have a better power band. The YFS200 motor is the same as the DT200, other than the top end. Is this the same for the DT200R, DT200WR, or WR200? What is the difference between these models / engines? What other motors will mount in the same spots or top end of the YFS200? I appreciate any information and help I can get.

I have looked at macdizzy, also I live in Minnesota. It is hard to find the DT200 parts in the United States, since that model was never offered. That is the reason I was wondering the differences between the engines on DT200, DT200R, DT200WR, and WR200. Maybe it will be easer to get / find parts in the US. My 1990 Blaster has a lot of upgrades and the 240 big bore kit. But it can be faster. Would anyone know where I can get a DT200 top end with the big bore kit in it? Also I would need the rest of the parts to complete the conversion. That would make the Blaster enjoyable to ride again.:D

I looked into this before. all those bikes are basicly the same engine. If you can find the whole used bike, you would be better off, than trying to buy the seperate parts. Try e-bay and cycle trader. Also since you live in minn. try canadian papers. Also the Tri-z motor and a YZ motor are not too hard to wedge into a blaster frame. I know of a couple around here that have been done, and the yz motors are easier to find.

Out of all the different engines that will fit, what motor will have the best power band?

I would get a newer YZ250. However, there is this local kid that has a 2002 YZ250F motor in a Hetric bike and it flat rips. It's almost as fast as a yfz450. I was looking at the motor and measuring it, and I believe you could get it to fit a blaster, and the exhaust would be much easier to fabricate than a 2-stroke.

yup, Cole's machine flat rips with the 250f bullet in it.

That brings up some questions. Will the 2002 YZ250F motor fit in the Blaster frame? What will be the least expensive way to get this power plant into the Blaster? I have been looking around and it looks like that YZ250F motor can really move.

Buy a used motorcycle, then part it out and sell what you don't use.

That is exactly what I was thinking and looking into.
Is the YZ250F a four stroke engine? Where might I find a dyno chart to compare the two engines?

YZ250F is a four stroke. Baldwin might be able to help with a dyno chart, but I know Coles dyno'd at 41 hp.

Even though the 2002 YZ250F motor is a four stroke, you think it is a faster motor than a newer YZ250 engine?

I found some dyno information on: http://www.bondiengines.com/speednews.php Will this extra power make up for the gear / weight difference?

For anyone else reading this post, I found some information on a blaster with an YZ250 motor. http://www.macdizzy.com/yfsyz.htm http://www.macdizzy.com/swap.htm

why not just get a new yfz450 or a raptor 700? for the money your going to spend to make the blaster faster it still wont handle worth a you know what unles you make mods to get it longer.

save your self the truble and just get a new quad.

As far as overpowering my Blaster frame, I have +6 width on the front suspensions and +4 width on the back. I am not sure, but I don’t think I would want to make it longer. Also I don’t have $5000 to $7000 to spend on a new quad. So, if I bought an YZF250, take out the motor and electrical, sell my Blaster motor and YZF250 extra parts that I didn’t need. I will be under the cost of one of those new quads. Yes I would like a newer motor, 03 or newer. But for cost, I may get an older one. I also found an atv / dirtbike junk yard 20 min away from me. I am planning on looking in there to see what they have when the weather is better. We just received +7 inches of snow last night.:eek2:

What year and up dose the YZ250 engine have a counter balance shaft, if any? I am concerned about the level of vibrations that this motor might put off. Will the vibrations be under the tolerance our hands and feet can handle? With too much vibration, the frame will develop stress cracks. I will also have to increase the swing arm on the Blaster to help keep it hooking up.
A couple of different sites where they are talking about doing a YZ250 Blaster.
