I'm wanting build a Ktm 525 or Honda 650 quad but not sure what frame to use. I'm torn between a 250r or 400ex. I'v rode 250r's (3 & 4 wheel), T-4 Tecate & currently riding a ATK 450. I love the handling of the R but the quickness of the ATK. I know the R stuff is going to start becoming harder to find. I talked to Walsh Race Craft yesterday & they said that they have quit making the R chassis. I didn't know how close in geometry or seat hieght the Ex was to the R. Do they make a no link rear for the Ex? **Quick note about the ATK, it's stock motor & is the quickest thing I've sat on! The only thing that's came close to beat it was a modded 660 Raptor, I only got him by tire & 2005 Polaris 500 that was close also. I've ran modded KFX 700 (ruined his day), 05' 450r, modded 400ex, stock 660 Raptor, Banshee & KX250. When my brother rode my 89' KX250, it all depened on who got wholeshot.

what is a Atk??? and what you need to do is get a 400ex frame have plenty of space for motor and lots of stuff to do for mods to the frame

A ATK is the old Cannondale, ATK is small American company that bought all the 440 Cannondales & merchandise then fixed the motor problems & boosted the CC's to 450. Dinili bought the Cannondale names like Cannibal,Speed,Moto,Blaze & Glamis.

I've been wanting to swap the KTM 525 in my EX for a while. That thing would be a nasty machine. I'm sure it could be done but I've personally never seen it. The biggest problem if finding just a motor. After that its all fabrication skills. The geometry between the 400 and the 250 are similar and I've never seen a no-link rear for the 400 but maybe they make one.

i dont know of anybody that makes a no-link rearend for a 400ex. i would say it is all what you want. from what i have seen is the EX is close, but not quite the same as teh old R. it also seems the seat heigth is higher in stock form. i would say to use a 400ex frame since it is still a popular bike with tons of parts available for it. and for the motor, KTM 520 all the way. i have always wanted to build one but dont have the means to do so. teh XR600 motor would not perform nearly as well as the KTM or even a 450 bike motor. Plus you dont see to many KTM hybrids.

the 250r and 400ex frame r almost exactly the same. i like the handling of the ex better than the 450r, so i would imagine that i would like the 250 better too
