On my last outing i noticed the motor making a new noise. occasionly it sounds like timing chain noise. i notice it about 10% of the time at an idle. is there an adjustment? i already reset the valves and checked the oil. The bike is stock and still runs great. i do press it hard hill climbing in the dunes. 100 hrs on engine:(

i dont think there is an adjustment it could be a worn out chain tensioner...or it could just be valve noise...only one way to find out.....tear her down

Mine makes a noise too. I can only hear it going down the road when i let off the throttle. Sounds like it is coming from the left side of the engine. I just did the valves not too long ago. It might make it when i give it gas but, the Pro Curcuit pipe makes it hard to hear anything else. Its kind of a high pitch ticking noise. Maybe tinging noise.

theres lotsa moving parts in there, and theres gunna be noise, i just ignore it, sinthetic oil helped allitle but moveing metal parts are just gunna make noise

Sure does run good. Ive never really ridden another 400ex besides mine so its hard to compare noises.

I find all 400s have alot of valve terrain noise when compard to other 4-stroke motors.

thanks for all the input. At this point i will just monitor the noise and see if it gets worse or if it is just the way it is. most people woudnt have noticed it and if i had an aftermarket pipe there is no way i would even here it.
Thanks again.
