ya know I was looking at my tank yesterday and it seems to have a small hairline crack on the top of the tank by one of the lines connecting to the engine...It doesnt leak, or I havent seen any oil coming from it...I thought about going aftermarket on the tank But I have noticed how sometimes it will rub the headpipe if you have an aftermarket exhaust

One of my buddies had his oil tank welded, and it was a fairly major weld, but it has held up fine. Kinda long story, but the short version is: changing oil, torque wrench malfunctioned, twisted drain plug and threaded neck portion completely out of the bottom of the oil tank, results were a very large hole in the bottom of the oil tank. He's rode it quite a bit since he got it fixed and it's been fine so far.

As for aftermarket oil tanks, most have increased oil capacity which lowers oil temp and engine temp, which results in increased engine reliability. If I was going to buy an aftermarket tank I would get a Pingry.
