If it actually is an "air screw" it would be situated on the back side of the carb and turning it out would cause the mixture to be leaner. However, I'm guessing you're refering to a fuel mixture screw, situated on the front side of the carb. Turning this out will increase fuel causing the idle mixture to be richer.

"air mixture" screws are usually found on two strokes.

450r has a fuel screw.

In addition to what Punk***** added about the location of the screw on the carb, in every case I'm aware of 2 strokes have air screw carbs and 4 strokes have fuel screw carbs. Probably there are exceptions to that but I haven't noticed any common ones.
