I won't say anything on the 426 becuase I have not owned on, but I love my 440. So far, and this is only through the ending stages of brake-in, there is very good power and reliability. The first time I pressed the button, the engine magically fired up. Boy was that a relief!

I have a 426 with just a bigger bore. I like it alot if you get a 440 you better get a different cylinder and oil coole and tank otherwise it will heat up with small cylinder walls.

i like my 426 alot, mainly got it becuase of the price for getting it bored instead of getting the new sleeve in the cylinder. but it runs strong and is just about tied with my dads ex when it was in the stock carb. we havent had problems with either overheating and neither of the quads have oilcoolers or bigger oil tanks. both of them live on 91 octane.

i just put in a 426, ported, and stage2 cam, it is a big jump from stock cylinder. i would say go with 426 its cheaper than a 440, but depending on what you want race/freestyle or just ride i would say 426 would be ur best bet. If you have the money and time go with 440..but i think you would be happy with 426,.
