You guys think that this would be a good project? I have been offered with an extremely cheap, 2005 z400 rolling chassis. I was thinking, why put a Z engine back in. How about just tring to stick a 450 engine in there. The 450r engine came into my head first. Cheap, relaible and forward kick. also the z is already liquid cooled so I would not have to worry about mounting all the cooling stuff.
the Z frame is kinda tall so Im thinking that it wont be hard at all, as far as fitment problems. Im not sure it everything will align, but im sure i will figure out that problem

You guys think it is worth to do it?

Think its a waste of time and money?

OH and if i do, i will be sure to make a big thread with tons of pics

sounds like an intresting and fun project if you have the money to do it

if i was thinkin about that and had the money to do it, i would go for it. i think it would be a pretty sweet conversion. i dont think i've ever seen any motor in a z400 frame besides, well the z400 motor.

id put a rm 250 motor in it...cleanly putting a 450r engine in there would be a waste of time

Guys i dont have that much $$. Just enough to buy the roller, and the engine, carb and electronics.

what other stuff would i have to buy?

I just want to have a sleeper..

a 450r or yfz are the only engines that would be going in

you think it is possible? would the front sproket and the rear sproket line up?

sounds like you may be onto something there, all the cooling stuff is usually one of the hardest things to get mounted and fit in correctly. But with it already there I would definitley go for that 450r motor :macho

Sounds like a good idea if you can do it. I know if I had the opportunity I would! That would be a pretty bad Z if you did it up right.

BTW, I think that you guys wanting the RM 250 engine in there are not on the right idea. The engine is all race.. there is no fun ability to the motor when you compare it to a 450 engine.

thanks for the input guys, as soon as i get the roller, i will begin my quest to find a cheap 450 motor, or a blown one, so i could build it up.

Anybody know where i can buy a cheap 450r engine?

I could that this would be reasonable because when i go to mod it, I can buy all used stuff for next to nothing compared to 450r mods, so i would get the best of both worlds....

With the Z frame being trash in the first place, putting more torque to it, welding and cutting it up, and spending lots of money on it just doesn't seem like a wise thing to do. I'd rather stick a DRZ bike motor in it.

I'm pretty sure that Suzuki addressed the frame issues a few years back. It should be a pretty cool project and with the zuki 450 out now there will be a lot of z parts on the used market, and a few more 450R parts out there too. Take your time and shop around hard and you'll be able to get nearly everything used.
