just found this site and have enjoyed reading everything so far

i am planning on purchasing a 01' raptor 660r with aftermarket rims and tires, nerf bars , exhaust and few other odds and ends for 3k is that a fair deal this is at a dealer.

i have asked about the tranny issue and he assures me that the tranny is fine tho it was never brought in to have the service for it during the time of warranty

what else should i look for on this raptor before buying

thanks in advance

Welcome to the site..

The two biggest knocks of the '01 Raptor is the tranny and the one way clutch bearing (more then just the '01s.)

Other then that, I have not really heard of many issues. Look it over, make sure all of the bearings seem to be nice and tight, check the brakes, etc. Typical used bike/quad checklist type of stuff.

01's are hit or miss...... I known of people with 100's of hours on them with no tranny failures, and I've seen them go 60hrs before failures. Its really just a game of russian rouhlette. I think that $3,000 is pretty high for an 01', but if its in great shape and has lots of nice add-ons its up to you. :)

Good luck and hope you enjoy it.

i baught an 01 raptor from a dealer about 2 months ago and it was like new. i payed 3500 for it but it had skid plates, yosh exhaust, nerf bars and a six pack rack and it had been jetted. so far it has been awsome. i have done a lot more to it though since i got it.

I just traded my 05 raptor in for $3400 with the 2 1/2 years Y.E.S. warranty left. There is info on the kelly blue book web. for ATV's.My 05 retail value was $4700,but trade in was only $3400.It had alot of hours & wear on it,but they gave me max trade in because of the Y.E.S. warranty for 4 years. You could probaly find a better deal on Ebay & if it has a Y.E.S. warranty it transfers for free.Hope that helps.

Make sure you check into the care of the four-wheeler. My family owns 2 raptors (2002 and 2003), and I have rode a 2001. So I have much experience. All I have to say is to watch out for the traany, because they are huge issues on 2001's. I wouldn't buy it iof the tranny had not been rebuilt. Also raptors 2001-2003 have problems with the starter engaging bearings in which usally wear out around 1-2 years of use, and they will set you back about $200-$250. MAinly make sure it has been taking care of well.

Congrats on the KFX. I almost bought one instead of the Raptor, but I really like the power of the Raptor. The LTZ/KFX is still a great machine though.
