Well my transmission in my 302 mustang is slipping and needs replaced or rebuilt. My friend found a tranny out of a 302 truck that would fit but would it work properly? I figured like the gearing would be different or something, but I dont know a lot about cars though

The transmission out of the truck will not match up to the mustang transmission. I even asked my brother who deals with mustangs and he said they are two totally different transmissions. What year is the car? Where are you from? He is selling the trans from his car. 1989 Coupe, AT, it's a C4 with a higher stall and a hurst shifter. (Trans is like a racing trans). Hope that helps.

Well once he told me it was out of a truck, I said no. But then he went on a said he got it out of a 84 mustang. I think its BS. He says the tranny is a c6

Look on jegs or summit racing. You can get brand new c4 or c6 tranny for a pretty decent price.

Yeah, he must not know what he is talking about because the mustangs have C4's.

so the C6 tranny would be bad for my mustang?

oh cosborne, my mustang is mid 80's low 90's in year. The body is a 85 GT V6, but someone put in a 302 and Im not sure what year. Im from bedford, IN. Like 20 minutes away from bloomington

A c6 would probably be fine for your Mustang. All the c6 is from what I understand is a heavier duty c4. My 65' Mustang with a 302 has a c4 tranny with a shift kit in it...

i am by no means a ford expert, but a C4 is a 3 speed non overdrive LT duty trans. the C6 is not just a built up C4, but a totally different transmission. The C6 is much heavier duty, and much larger than the C4. If you wanted to swap it out and put a C6 in your stang, you would need more parts than just the tranny. the starter, backing plate, and possibly the flexplate would need to be changed. THe C6 is not very good for performance cars either. it robs too much horspower. the C6 takes nearly 60HP to make it operate correctly, which is signifcantly more than the C4. AS far as getting one out of a truck, as long at the tailshaft length is the same, the motors are the same(i.e. 302 in truck and 302 in car), and they are both 2wd a truck C4(hard to find, in a few 1/2 tons) will work in the mustang. You best be it find a RWD car to pull the tranny out of. i believe the 302 and cleavland trany bolt patterns are the same, but you might want to check on that.
