Hey,
I have a 400ex and I am going to get new tires for it soon. My question is when you change from 20's and 23's to like 18's and 20's what is the benifit of that. Also how much top speed do you lose and ground clearence
thanks:D

youll lose an inch of ground clearance in the rear. i dont see a real benfit to having 18s, unless you ride MX. if you do happen to put 18s on the rear, go up 1 tooth on the front sproket and itll be about the same gearing you had before. youll lose some top speed but gain some bottom end torque, only if you dont gear up. if you gear up with 18s youll see no different in power.

what part of missouri are you in, im in St. Louis.

There is a little benefit to running 18s in the rear.

If your going from an 20x11-9 to an 18x11-9 then you will have a smaller stiffer sidewall, which will reduce role. It also provides a little less rotational mass, due to a little lighter weight. There probably isn't a huge difference, and you probably won't notice much either way. The gearing difference will be the most noticable.

Yea i run 18-11-8 fast trekkers sometimes just to play around. they are fun for sliding and things like that. well thats what i use em for. they are usually used for mx. On my 300ex it geared it way down even with a 14t front sprocket it didn't seem to be the same as with 20's. then again its a 300ex. 300ex's are kinna low geared and close ratio's.
