400ex rear shock

im wanting to powder coat the spring on the rear shock. is it possible to take the spring off without tearing the strut apart?

Yep it's possible. I'm not sure on how to disassemble it, but it can be done.

its easy to get it off. put preload rings all the way to top(have too so u can compress spring only). then take a screw driver(the flat ones not the x type) put it between the 2 metal pieces and push down on the spring and pry the 2 metal pieces up and out and the spring will come right off.

i did it a couple times. once i got the preload rings all the way to the top it took em 1 minut to get the spring.

i did it to a stock and after market 400ex rear shock b4 and to yfz front shocks b4... its easy
