I’m a recreational rider and ride mostly woods plus some dunes, open fields and ice. I already have the following:

Rossier full exhaust
Renthal bars
Trail tech bar clamp
Nerfs
Steering stabilizer
Full skids
Blingstar bumper

What would you add?

send your shocks to gt thunder and get his rear link and all of them revalved...that will leave you a little under $600

then i would get better tires and wheels

Suspension

I have been thinking about suspension before power, because I know if I can't keep the tires on the ground there is no reason for more power.

Should I just have the stock fronts vavled and set up for me and link up the rear? Or should I go into a different setup. Remember, only 12 bills to work with at this point. Already dumped about $1400 into it.

For Recreational Riding, or any riding for that matter, I would say go with GT thunder revalve, I would of but I bought a complete set of shocks for less. I heard it is only around 6 bills.....then you have 6 bills left for power!!!1 :D :D :D

Might have to wait...can't imagine not getting any seat time on it before I send out the shocks. I wonder how long it takes GT Thunder to turn around the shocks?

I think 2 weeks......check out his website, I usually get a response from him within a day if I email him, or call him!

Will the GT Thunder rear linkage fit with my pro armor swinger skid?

I am pretty sure you will have to cut a section in the skid plate for the linkage to have proper clearance!

I wonder if that is an easy thing to do? I might be able to get a buddy to cut it with a plasma cutter??? IDK.

i cut my armadillo swinger skid(400ex) for the linkage, and i am sure i will have to cut my prm for the linkage also...it wasn't that hard...i am like you, i just got the bike a little over a week ago and do not want to send the shocks out now to be revavled...i am going to wait until november and do it...or so i say...

but for $600 or so dollars, it is definately the best way to go, and within your budget. it also leaves you some $$$ for other goodies

Right on...I think it will be money well spent. How did you cut your skids for the linkage?

give Colby a call at C&D. He worked my shocks. They are in transit as we speak. I've heard alot of good things about his set-up.....and after speaking to him, i was sold. With C&D's set-up, you do not have to modify your skid.

it has been so long, i don't remember..my dad di most of the work...i had started it, but having worked 7 pm to 7 am for 6 days in a row...i started falling asleep and he decided to finish it for me so i could go home ans sleep and do the family thin with my wife and daughter...

anyway, we marked where we wanted to have it cut. then i drilled holes along the mark. i was till drilling the holes when he took over. i went home got up a few hours later with a message that it was done. i think he used a hack saw with blade to cut metal to do it...i am not sure though...he said it was easy, only took him about an hour after i left

I am sure a dremel and a cutting wheel will do the trick, I have cut stainless steel bolts with a cutting wheel before in a matter of seconds!

Well, since you said that, what are the benefits of Long Travel to a recreational woods rider, OR, what benefits do you notice with a long travel set up?

Just curious!

Good question.

yep, if you are riding trails, i see no use for lt, but it is always nice to have:D

If you don't want to be down for 2 weeks you can buy some used shocks off of the forum or ebay and send those in. Then when the rebuilt ones come in you can turn around and sell yours. If you buy/sell right you can come out even on the deal.

I concur with what everyone is saying, the first place I'd put my money is in suspension. The GT Thunder rear rebuild and link is an awesome combination for the money.

But has anyone tried this combo on an '06 450r and what did you think in comparison?
