Hey guys,

I was wondering what would be a good motor set up for a 300ex? I got the pipe and silncer, k and n, thats about it... I was thinking a CDI modification and maybe a high compression piston?I want to do all of this without boring or anything, would shaving the flywheel help?

Well I woundnt shoot the big dunes on a 300ex but hey thats me
A higher compression piston is gonna help, Im not sure on the flywheel...
You might also wanna look at changing your gearing
Dont forget the paddles

Some lower gearing will definetly help you, a cam and high compression piston will also help you. I wouldn't do the CDI mod, i have seen too many motors blow up in result of that.

I saw one motor blow up from a unlimited CDI .....it wasnt pretty..and the guy looked even worse...

If it was me, id bore. While i was getting a bigger bore piston, id up the compression on the piston. To add more, id got some racing fuel.Id throw in a good cam too.Id change, and mess around with the gearing a bit too.
that should set ya pretty good. id get some paddle tires too if your there alot.

Porting on the 300ex helps alot. Some cheap mods for more power are the 400ex carb, 350X airboot and, modified airbox lid. To spend some more money get a port and polish, cam, hardfaced rockers, valve springs, and a high comp piston. Whether it be stock bore or over bore is up to you.

I just want some simple motor mods, nothing fancy, just a cam and high comp. piston would be good for me.. money wise in the 250-300 dollar range if push comes to shove, but even cheaper would be nice :D

How much would a port and polish job cost?
And, how much HP would you gain(rough estimate).

Could I do this job myself?

HIGHER GEARING
A 300ex is geared WAY to low when they are stock.

Well I havn't spent much time on 300ex's but if its geared to low then thats good in the power robbing sand. Pork Chop first get your full exhaust and then save up some money and do some work to the inner motor and make it your last. it will be cheaper that way. Your gonna need a cam, higher compression piston which will let you run a lot more hp but you have to run higher octane gas maybe even race gas if you get one that is has higher compression, then port and polish. I think thats about 150 for our 400ex's so I don't think it would be much differant than a 300ex. No you can port the intake yourself but yes the exhaust port and make sure the person doing the porting has lots of experience with it. Then you should be set.

Nausty, how much would you think that would all run money wise? because I still plan on getting some works shocks and a-arms on the front

You could put a high compression piston in it for $85, a cam for $150, valve springs at $105 and an oil cooler at $95. This won't outrun a 400EX - you would have to go to a 330 kit and ported head with a good pipe. Also, you will need to modify your black box for another $85 to get rid of your rev limiter. No matter which way you go with our products, they are very reliable especially when you put an oil cooler on it.

there's some prices from FOUR STROKE TECH
the hi-comp piston is for stock bore
