i think my ex jumped time and was wondering how i can check it

drain the oil

put the engine at TDC

pull the head off

check to see if the timing marks are lined up with the casing.


for the valves, there is a little lock nut on top of each valve, loosen that and stick a feeler gauge in there. (im not too sure on the size) and then tighten it back up.

honestly you need a service manual before doing that, some people can explain it quite well ( I can't ) but its better to have a manual and pictures to refer to while your doing it. BUT you don't have to drain your oil, and you don't take the head off ( he must mean the top engine cover mostly referred to as the valve cover or rocker box cover ). The head is actually where the valves are and your carb. is attached to.
