For KS, you have to drive through cones weaving back and forth. Then drive a straight line almost as slowly as possible without tipping over for about 25 feet. Then have to get going about 15-20 mph and try to stop on a certain point. The test is actually pretty easy if you ride it with a bike you feel comfortable with.

Gotta be able to ride a wheelie for a mile, do a rolling stoppie, and burn out a smiley face on the pavement.

There is a probationary period. You get that license by taking a written test. After a month, you can try and get your full license by taking a driving test.

In mass. all you have to do is three circles to the left, three circles to the left, and three figure 8s without putting your feet down.

Some states have a "motorcycle training course", usually through the local community college. Generally a 2-day course, and when you complete that course, you can get your license automatically.

No written test, no road test. You do it all in the rider course. You should see if your state has a similar program.

Is that the ABATE program or is it something different?

Each state is going to be different, right? In Nevada, the Rider Course must meet the MOST (Motorcycle Operator Skills Test) Standard set by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

I just looked on the North Carolina DMV web site about motorcycle license, and they didn't mention anything about a Rider Course as an alternative. :(

In indiana, you can get a motorcycles license at 15 (probationary)

I think most states allow you to get a motorcycle license at the same age as a drivers license (16).

In some states you MUST have a valid drivers license before you can get a motorcycle license. For example, you cannot get a motorcycle license by itself, you MUST take the written and driving test for a car, THEN take the written and driving test for a motorcycle.

Yeah Wilkin is right, in order to get a motorcycle license you have to first obtain a drivers license.

Not in indiana. I could ride my motorcycle legally during daylight hours, with a helmet on, and while carrying no passengers at the age of 15. This was my probationary motorcycle license. Then when i turned 16 i got my actual license without restrictions.
