I was just wondering i know different size sprockets make it have more top end or low end but which are they?? do the lower ones or higher ones have more top end?? thanks

smaller front sprocket gives more power but takes away from top speed-larger adds top speed but loses low end power. one tooth on the front is equal to about 3 on the back. one tooth on front is very noticable change. front sprockets are alot easier to change.

Yeah, if you're talking about starting from a dead stop.

Actually I feel you can go too low with that. I found it harder to wheelie my EX with lower gearing. It seemed to accelerate faster for sure, but it made it go forward a lot easier instead of smoothing the power out and it just popping up like it did with stock gearing. If you go too short, then you also run out of usable power, it just revs right out too quick and then you cant hold the wheelie as good either. JMO.

Thanks for the link! I've got a 400ex that is stock and I've been looking into changing to 22" rears (22.6" actually) and I was wandering if dropping one tooth on the front would be enough to get the gearing back right. Now I know it will still be off. By the numbers I'll need a 14 tooth on the front and a 40 tooth on the rear and I'm having real trouble finding one. I could go to a 13 up front and leave the rear stock but I've not been able to find one of those either. Anyone know where I can find a 40 rear or a 13 front I'd greatly appriciate it! Clearance on the rear isn't a problem I wouldn't think because I run a aftermarket swingarm guard that has more room than the stock one.

One problem with enlarging the rear sprocket is it might hit the skid plate, I know mine on my Pro armor was close at the stock 38.

I'm running a Ricochet Bullet series swingarm guard and it's about 1/2"-5/8" below the chain and sprocket.

ive got the 22`s in the back and i had the stock sprockets and it didnt have enough low end so i droped a tooth too a 14T and increatable power change

Just get the 22`s and then go and get a 14t front sproket and try it Trust me!:macho

It would make sense that it is easier to wheelie on a higher tooth spindle becuase it has more torque same as wheel size.
