people on the predatorowners.com forum have been doing this for awhile! it is a great mod! the acceleration is mind blowing, as is the throttle response! mods to the airbox will need to be done, and depending on your quad, the civic tube will have to be cut.

i am currently at a 180mj, 50pj, and the 4rth slot down on the needle(i also put an HMF pipe on as well)! and she halls balls! i will probably have to up a tooth on my front sprocket because i basically lost 1rst and 2nd gear (it revvs so FAST)

i dont have acces to a dyno, but i can deffinetly say the acceleration is absolutely amazing! the front end will come up at will pretty much through any gear:devil:

heres a bunch of pics! if anyone has any questions, ask away!!

i took out riding after a day of rain, so the trails were somewhat muddy. i had no problems with debri getting in the airbox, but when i washed my quad afterwards i made sure to put a garbage bag over the filters. i would deffinetly reccomend getting an outerwears as well for dusty conditions! rather than that, no complaints here!:D

would that mod of the intake work on a 500 scrambler?

wolffie
03-05-2006, 10:30 AM
yeah this mod will pretty much work on anything. it depends on how far away your stock filter and box setup is from the carb. you would just have to cut the tube to fit!

the longer the tube, the more low end
the shorter the tube, the more top end

its going to pull hard all through the midrange anyways!:D

Notfast3nuf4m3
03-05-2006, 10:36 AM
whatd brand intake is it?

wolffie
03-05-2006, 11:09 AM
im not entirely sure. i bought it off of a member of www.predatorowners.com. i believe it is off of an early 90's Civic though. honestly though, if you can get some metal tubing you could just make your own! then buy a clamp on filter at an autoparts store or www.denniskirk.com

EXevan91

think u could do it prity easy to a ex ?

03-05-2006, 04:23 PM
whats the smaller filter for? might be a dumb q:confused:

wolffie
03-05-2006, 05:08 PM
EXevan91, yeah you could probably fit it on an ex! just cut the tube so the filter will fit in your box, and then buy a hoseclamp to attach the boot end of the tube onto your carb. like i said, i paid $30 for the intake and $10 for other micelaneous parts! see how it works for you!

trx275r, the filter fit in my box, so that is what i am running. its really not that small though, i think it is about the size of a 450r's filter. if i cut my airbox up (or just took it off) i could fit a massive filter if i wanted. the problem is, then i would have no splash protection! this guy on the predatorowners.com site took a Tidy Cats liter box and used that so he could fit an enlarged filter on!:D

The smaller filter is a crankcase filter.....no performance added, just reassurance.

The 400ex and the 450R use the same air filters

wolffie
03-06-2006, 04:59 PM
^^something like that. i dont own a 400ex so idont know! but yeah, the filter is about a regular ATV size. i might make it bigger in the future.

yeah the small filter is the crank case breather. before there was a hose that connect to a splice with a piece of oiled foam in front of it. since i had to custom up the box, i had to scrap away the old setup and just use a clamp on crank case filter. as mentioned before, no performance added. i am probably going to relocate to the fron though, because if i go up on 12 i think it might leak a bit!

i bought the civic intake cut. it is around 12inches long. but if you plan on putting it on a 400ex (if it is possible) you will probably be running a much shorter tube!

I just read the article and purchased a intake kit for 35.00 with shipping. What is the little filter called or is it a aftermarket crank case breather?? does the seat still fit? or is there some mods i need to know about

wolffie
03-14-2006, 06:04 PM
the little filter is a crank case breather. there are a couple of mods you have to do:

one, you have to take a dremel and shave up the airbox because there are all these little gills that held up the stock filter. shave em all!

two, you will have to shave a couple of the little ridges on the bottom of your seat. just use your discretion, it is pretty much common sense! thats it though!

jetting is probably the hardest part! if you need help on anything, just PM me!

thanks......im NEW to polaris..haha

wolffie
03-24-2006, 04:51 PM
Blood500, if you plan on sending your carb into Nicholas, i would just get the twin air. he can jet your carb more sport on for that setup. in terms of performance, the twin air will deliver decent gains throughtout the powerband, but the civic will really focus on acceleration!

Crazy400EX, go to www.predatorowners.com! someone is always selling/trading civic intakes on their! that is how i got mine:D

Blood500
03-24-2006, 06:38 PM
I aint sendin it to NC i was buyin off someone so i would have to jet it anyways. I am goin somewhere this weekend for about a week to ride and im goin to mess with the civiv intake i got and the stock carb for now, ill start with a 180 or so and go where i need. thanks lata

all im gona do is buy a piece of 18in exhaust tubing which is 3in dia same size as civic and mod that to see what happens. just need to figure out how to mount it any body want to help just pm me on how i can mount it on a 400ex with no airbox. pic. or drawings will help thanks

velo3
03-26-2006, 03:15 AM
ya a 50pj would be great, cause this thing flows like a mofo, but take the airbox off completely if you a better bang up top. made half a bike diff on mine when i had it on.

wolffie
03-26-2006, 07:13 AM
yeah i dunno, i left my airbox on just for splash protection! if i was in dry lands or dunes, i would just run with no box! i did some woods riding the other day, and am happy to report i had no problems with mud or water!

03-26-2006, 01:17 PM
ok heres the deal im done with the intake im not shure if i need to re jet or not. its riding fine but its got a slight bog i think i might need to go up one jet size wat do yaw think. but as soon as i hit the throttle the thing stands straight up. it s got massive throttle response. so help might need to rejet.

wolffie
03-26-2006, 05:13 PM
give me your jetting specs right now, and where is the bog at? short throttle, mid throttle, or full throttle? i will see if i can help. hey post up some pics too man, i am curious to see how your project turned out:D

the quad is on its winter rebuild and still is not done so right now it does not run i have to buy a biger oil tank be4 i start it up and i have to wait for the drag races to open so i can go buy some alky
i thinks its a little to long thow i will prolly cut about 2" off it this winter the quad was stock so it has came along way

killen them all
03-29-2006, 05:58 PM
yeah and about it sticking out the side i have the other part of the intake the part you are using on urs i might use so its under my seat but i want to see what performes better

wolffie
03-29-2006, 06:13 PM
sounds good. yeah if you are drag racing, i dont think it will be that big of a deal coming out of the side, but for any other type of riding, definetly put it under the seat.

just remember the shorter the intake is from the carb, the more top end, and the longer the more acceleration. you probably should cut it down a bit. play around with it a bit!

wolffie
04-01-2006, 08:12 AM
alright i did a plug check, and my guess was right; i was running rich!

i dropped from a 180mj to a 170mj, and she is damn near spot on for this upstate Ny weather! as mentioned before, i am still at a 50pj, 4rth slot on needle!

preddymoto
04-02-2006, 01:25 PM
i found an alternative to a outerwear. i'm using a couple nylons and some k&n oil. so far so good. plus it's very cheap. when they get dirty i just throw them out.

nicktrx400ex
04-02-2006, 04:05 PM
nylon what

nicktrx400ex
04-02-2006, 04:15 PM
ive got mine 6 in away from the carb i i can wheelie a couple hundred feet and i got real good mid and good low end top end stayed about the same but it has more torque throughout the powerband and can get to 4th gear in 100ft but with it long it was almost under the grab bar and i could get to 4th in about 60-70 ft. but with less of top end range but i like it closer though you feel like you have more of a gear in 1st hope this helps anyone.

Nick

wolffie
04-02-2006, 05:59 PM
yeah by shortening the tube to about 6-8 inches from the carb you will probably get a more balanced shot of power. alot of people on www.predatorowners.com have been trying this as well! i know for a fact you lose a touch of top end running the civic setup, but the acceleration is amazing! i just went trail riding with my buddy who has a 660 raptor, and i was easily smoking him on low end (now the top end was a different story:rolleyes: )

hey nicktrx400ex, lets see some pics of the civic intake on the 400:D

nicktrx400ex
04-02-2006, 07:28 PM

wolffie
04-11-2006, 06:05 PM
sounds good bro. www.jetsrus.com is a good place to buy your jets at if you havent already done so. you will probably make quite a jump on jetting so just be ready! i know it was shocking to me to go from a 150 to a 170 just with a pipe and intake mod!:D

Blood500
04-11-2006, 08:26 PM
wolffie, you dont run ur airbox anymore do you ? i want to run mine but it wont fit with the curve of the pipe, so i trimed the lil peaces stickin out in the airbox and i am goin to make my own brackets to lower the box about an inch.

Get a small bungee strap to run under the tube and hook each end on the frame. Or install the stock air box back on it and notch the front of the box so that it holds the tube up, plus keep water and mud from plastering the bottom of your pre-filter. May have to shorten the tube a bit.

nicktrx400ex
04-16-2006, 04:34 PM
ive done the bungie strap but it bounces alot so im gona need somthing that will hold it tight ive got a shop so anything i can do it i can send you the pic. and you could (paint) somthing on it and put it on here

Blood500

I just rode with mine on yesterday for the first time, i had to mod the airbox a lil to make it fit, i used a small bungie that with the seat hold it perfect. I have to just get it jetted right now i am goin to try a 47.5p with a 165mj, and go from there. I had a 175mj and a 50p in there yesterday and it bogged real bad once i got the mid 3rd.

wow that looks nice! i know a guy on the predatorowners.com website took a Tidy Cats liter box, cut it so it would fit with the filter, and then painted it flat black! sounds goofy but it worked, and if you mess up its cheap to just buy another one! trying doing that mabey.

nicktrx400ex, in terms of performance, which do you prefer; the shorter or longer intake?

nicktrx400ex
04-17-2006, 10:40 AM
the longer the more lowend with a good amount of mid range but the shorter you have more speed and pull trhough the top end but i like the shorter one just for more gear in first but i cant do wheelies as good though.

nicktrx400ex
04-20-2006, 03:47 PM
i just tested the intakes and the longer one for some reason didnt pull a weelie that good but the shorter one has alot of range from doing wheelies to racing so yaw should try the shorter one before yaw make a perminate place for the long one cause the shorter will give more of a rev to it and let you get better mid throughtop but wheelies real good.

civic intake

did you do something with the air/fuel mix screw ?
how many turns out??

wolffie
05-30-2006, 02:12 PM
the mixture screw on the preddy is typically rich from the factory, so for my elevation, i did not have to adjust it. i did however up my main jet to a 162.5 (i also had a pipe on as well)

remember, depending on your elevation, you jetting is going to be different! i messed with the pilot and needle, but after further testing and research, it wasnt even neccesary:D good luck! PM if you have any more questions.

ATC600X
08-25-2007, 03:03 PM
